In acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), women’s health is most closely related to the liver. The liver is in charge of facilitating the free flow of Qi (“chee”) and blood throughout the body. The liver function of storing blood is twofold: it regulates the actual blood volume in accordance to physical activity, and it regulates menstruation. Because of the key role the liver plays in women’s health, several gynecological disorders are due to malfunction of the liver Qi or blood. For example, stagnation of the liver Qi, may result in the stagnation of the blood, leading to painful and irregular periods.
Acupuncture and TCM use a holistic, whole-body approach to health. In contrast to seeking relief from medications, acupuncture and TCM use natural and safe methods to target the underlying cause(s) specific to the issue you are facing. There are several factors that contribute to and play a key role in the root cause(s) of each specific disorder. Eliza Mellen-Smith Acupuncture performs a comprehensive physical exam using both western and eastern diagnostic criteria to determine how and why your body’s Qi is out of balance. This determination allows Eliza to create a specific treatment plan that is unique to the individual. In addition to acupuncture treatments, Eliza may suggest herbal remedies and supplements designed to boost your health and immune system. See our page on Fertility for more information on how we can help with reproductive health.
