Mouth Disorders

In acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the teeth and gums are governed by the kidneys and stomach, respectively. In addition to the connection to the kidneys, there are 12 main meridians (network of channels) within the body, and each tooth is related to a meridian. Due to these links to other organs and meridians, disruptions in the flow of Qi (“chee”) in the body can manifest as disorders in the mouth, affecting the teeth and gums.

Acupuncture and TCM use a holistic, whole-body approach to health. In contrast to seeking relief from medications, acupuncture and TCM use natural and safe methods to target the underlying cause(s) specific to the issue you are facing. There are several factors that contribute to and play a key role in the root cause(s) of each specific disorder. Eliza Mellen-Smith Acupuncture performs a comprehensive physical exam using both western and eastern diagnostic criteria to determine how and why your body’s Qi is out of balance. This determination allows Eliza to create a specific treatment plan that is unique to the individual. In addition to acupuncture treatments, Eliza may suggest herbal remedies and supplements designed to boost your health and immune system.

Eliza Mellen-Smith Acupuncture is experienced in treating the following mouth disorders:
